Born and raised in Dallas Texas, Zanoni (Zan) Delmar Burton came from a large family with loving parents and seven siblings. Being 10 years the youngest, Zan survived all of his immediate family to live a profoundly honorable life of 92 years.

Spending his teens in South Florida, Zan loved fishing with his Dad in the Keys. He studied photography, ran track, and was class president at Miami Technical High School.

Zan served his country in the Korean War as an Army photographer. He returned to work several years in South FL at advertising photo shops, and relocated to the Space Coast for most of his career with the Photo Division at the Kennedy Space Center Tech Lab for 34 years. Zan served his fellow colleagues as Union Steward and mentored many young professionals during the historic Atlas, Titan, Saturn, Apollo and Space Shuttle eras.

During these years, Zan and first wife, Carole, raised two daughters, Cheryl and Debbie, in Satellite Beach. Many days were spent surf fishing, working on investment rental homes, camping with family, and hosting house parties with friends.

In the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s, Zan held his Real Estate license and became a certified Mortgage Broker. He mentored young families, helping them become first-time homeowners when they couldn’t find housing, otherwise.

Shortly before retirement, Zan married Barbara, his loving wife of 42 years. Zan fished the Banana River flats for prize red fish, and served as Harbor Master of Tequesta Harbor in Merritt Island, FL.

After retirement, they moved to the mainland to enjoy a robust social life with their neighbors in the Viera Grande Isle community. From singing karaoke at senior homes, hanging his Christmas lights to fun-loving Halloween costumes and card games, Zan’s dedication to improving his community will be greatly missed.

Zan’s quiet waters ran deep, serving as an Elder at Pineda Presbyterian Church. He was an active board member and coordinated the men’s breakfast group for many years.

Zan leaves behind his loving wife, 2 children, 3 stepchildren, 7 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, nieces & nephews, and lots of cherished extended family and friends. He was a mentor to many, and our family’s most cherished patriarch.

Zan’s Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, and his final resting place will be at Cape Canaveral Veterans Cemetery in Mims, FL. May you rest in peace, Zan, you did yourself and your country proud!
