Obituary

Winifred Julia McCarthy 63 died April 28th 2023. Winnie was predeceased by her parents Philip and Catherine McCarthy and her eldest brother David. Winnie is survived by her brother Philip McCarthy and sisters Marianne Hamelin and Roseanne McCarthy and her partner Jeff Evans. She also leaves behind niece Mary Catherine Satava, nephews Sean and Bruce Hamelin, Daniel Lansdon and great nieces and nephews whom she adored. Winnie is survived by cousins and many dear friends from her time in Melbourne.

Winnie was born in Neptune NJ and was extremely proud of her second generation Irish American heritage. At the age of 4 she transplanted from Belmar NJ to Melbourne FL with her family. Here she graduated from Our Lady of Lourdes and Melbourne Central Catholic high school where she was a star player on their softball team. She also attended BCC and was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church.
Winnie was a carpenter in the Melbourne/Palm Bay area for many years. Winnie was a skilled carpenter often sharpening her skills working alongside her brother Phil. She took pride in her ability to put a roof on as well as her brother Dave, and took care to pass on these hard-working skills to her nephew Sean. Winnie was also ready to join in on a project whether it was putting a new roof on a family members house or making a garden. Winnie enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, boating and anything to do with the ocean, often encouraging a nephew on a surfboard.
Her fortitude and perseverance were an example to her family as she went through so many health struggles without complaining. Winnie suffered from polycystic kidney disease and heart disease. If you would like to honor her memory with a donation to National Kidney Foundation/The American Heart Association or Our Lady of Lourdes School in Melbourne.
Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes Church Thursday May 11th, at 2:00pm.
