IN LOVING MEMORY OF
William G
Webster
November 23, 1936 – May 3, 2020
William (Gerry) Gerald Webster, 83, of Melbourne, Florida passed away peacefully at home on May 3, 2020, after a 3-month battle with Lou Gehrig's disease. Beloved husband of Sally Anne Webster (Hallowell) for 57 years, loving father of Deborah Anne Webster and William Bret Webster and daughter-in-law Danielle Claire Webster; and affectionately known as Grandfather by his three granddaughters, Anna Grace Helen Cornell, Charlotte Maria Mekdes Cornell and Alana Bridget Webster.
Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania he was the son of the late Dorothy Elizabeth Webster (Paramore) and William David Webster. Gerry resided in Oreland, Pennsylvania for 61 years before relocating to Melbourne, Florida in 2009. He was a 1955 graduate of Springfield High School, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, where he was a 4-year varsity letter athlete in Cross Country and Track & Field, and a graduate of Pierce Business School. Gerry served in the United States Army and reserves from 1961 to 1966.
In 1967, Sally and Gerry purchased a home in Ocean City, New Jersey where they spent summers and beautiful weekends for 37 years enjoying beach life with their children and hosting many friends at this special place. Gerry was known as a hard-working, honest and good friend. He was quiet man who was happy to help but never enjoyed the spotlight. His favorite quote was " if you are going to do it, do it right ". He loved riding his bicycle in Ocean City and Melbourne, playing tennis, listening to his favorite singer Frank Sinatra, following local jazz and music artists in Melbourne and attending his granddaughters' school activities. Gerry is predeceased by his beloved cat Willie.
A gathering to celebrate Gerry will be scheduled when we are all able to come together comfortably. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in Gerry's name for the Cat Room of Ocean City Humane Society, P.O. Box 1254 – 1 Shelter Road, Ocean City, New Jersey 08226.
