William "Will" Wilson Lucas

Will Lucas, 72, of Melbourne Beach, FL passed away Monday, Aug.20, 2018 at his home with his wife by his side, after a long battle with cancer caused by exposure to Agent Orange in Vietnam.

He was born in Washington D.C. on May 7, 1946, the son of the late Woodrow and Mary Lucas.

Will attended Good Council School and graduated from Northwood High, and received his B.S. degree in business from the U. of Maryland University College.

He was a Vietnam veteran having served in the Army Co. "C" 4th Infantry Combat Engineers.

Will worked 36 years at Thomas Somerville Co., starting in the warehouse sweeping floors, eventually working his way up to Vice President of Sales.  After retiring from Thomas Somerville Co., he moved to Ocean City, MD where he became a Realtor for O'Conor, Piper, and Flynn, when he wasn't surfing.  He moved to Florida in 2001, and sold real estate with Century 21 Indian River Realty. He married his wife Karen S. Lucas on April 24, 2008.

His passions were surfing, gardening, music, and working on his surf documentaries. He was an East Coast Surfing historian and videographer, with a catalog of over 200 self-produced videos. His East Coast Surfing documentaries and films about his experiences in the Vietnam War are preserved on his website : http://www.surf64.com . He showed his surf movies many times in Ryckman Park for the public to enjoy.

Will was inducted into O.C. Legends Hall of Fame of Surfing in Ocean City, Maryland in 2005, and he was an avid supporter of the Florida Surf Museum in Cocoa Beach.

He enjoyed being a volunteer Guardian Ad Litem in Brevard County.

Will also enjoyed playing guitar in several bands beginning in 1962 as a member of the "Coachmen" and he was still rocking out at 71 years old in the band "Lyrical Soul".  He also loved just playing and jamming with friends.

Will is survived by his wife, Karen Lucas, two daughters, Jessica Lucas and Dana Lucas of New York, two grandsons, Lucas Novakowski and Zane Novakowski of New York, two stepsons and their wives, Sean Robins (Jennifer) and Christopher Robins (Heather) of Ocean City, MD., and three step-granddaughters, Reese Robins, Brynn Robins, and Shea Robins of Ocean City, MD.

He will be deeply missed by his family, his Army brothers, the East Coast surfing community, his many friends and pet cat.

A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, September, 2nd from 2 PM to 4 PM at the Melbourne Beach Town Hall on Ocean Avenue, next to Ryckman Park.
