Obituary

William "Bill" Grandy Foster, 98 Years Old, of West Melbourne, died Tuesday, February 21st.

Bill was born in the family home on Hoosac St. Johnstown, New York June 22, 1918 where he spent his childhood developing hunting, fishing skills and learning the family electrical business from his father. Life skills were stressed through his mother's belief to set standards for others to embrace. He graduated from Syracuse University in 1942 with a degree in Psychology. He became a Naval aviator during World War II in September of 1942 and retired as a Commander after twenty eight years of service to his country. After his military service Bill went on to hold a number of positions including social service director in New York, building the first cable TV system in Johnstown NY and was Director of Hospice Sun City Arizona.

Bill didn't consider himself part of the Greatest Generation but others did. He agreed with Gen. George Patten who said: "It's foolish and wrong to mourn these men who died. Rather we should thank God that such men lived." He told stories of shore leaves, riding out typhoons, flying hurricane aircraft from Banana River Navy Base now Patrick Air force Base, USO show celebrities and private tour of the Azores for President Johnson.

Bill was married to Lorraine Burdick and enjoyed retirement together on the ocean in Satellite Beach until they relocated to Buena Vida Retirement Community over three years ago.

Bill is survived by his wife Lorraine, daughters & husbands, Shirley & Wally, Audrey & Butch, Maureen & Dwight and Maria & Rick. Too numerous to mention are dear grands & greats, nieces & nephew and cousins.
