Dr. Victor Manuel Alvarez Sanchez, M.D., passed away peacefully at Orlando Health Hospital on February 19th, 2026, at the age of 97, surrounded by his loving family. Dr. Alvarez is survived by his wife of 74 years, Blanca Elena Alvarez Cruz; his three children, Angela Maria Alvarez Delgado, Victor Manuel Alvarez, and Elena Maria Alvarez; five grandchildren, Amanda Nicole Delgado-Mattern, Daniel Raymond Delgado, Christina Victoria Alvarez, Veronica Isabella Paniccia, and Vanessa Elena Paniccia; and two great-grandchildren, Amara Elena Delgado and Maxim Manolo Mattern. He is also survived by son-in-law Ramon Jorge Delgado, daughter-in-law Maria de la Concepcion Aguirre-Alvarez, grandson-in-law Luke William Mattern, and granddaughter-in-law Amber K. Curry-Delgado.

Dr. Alvarez was the second of two children born to attorney Jose Alvarez Portal and his wife Angela Beatriz Alvarez Sanchez Gomez in Santa Clara, Cuba, in 1928, after his elder brother, Jose Ramon Alvarez. He joins his parents, brother, and sister-in-law, Concepcion Alvarez-Alvarez, in heaven.

Dr. Alvarez and his wife, Blanca, met as children in Santa Clara and married in 1951 and had 3 wonderful children. Victor began practicing medicine in Cuba, until he left for the United States in 1961 with hopes of creating a better life for his family. He continued practicing medicine in Michigan, where he completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Oakwood Hospital and was board certified. In 1977, Dr. Alvarez and his family moved to Melbourne, Florida, where he established his own practice at 1281 South Hickory. He later worked for Medical Associates of Brevard, before moving on to another private practice, and later Health First. A loyal Brevard County community member, Dr. Alvarez was a Founding Member of the Brevard Zoo and served on the board of Holmes Regional Hospital. Dedicated to a life of medicine, Dr. Alvarez practiced medicine until he retired in 2009, at the age of 80, and continued to maintain his medical license until the age of 95.

Dr. Alvarez not only brought countless lives into this world through his career as an OBGYN, but he also touched the hearts of everyone he met. He is often fondly remembered by his patients and their families, and it is difficult to mention the name "Dr. Alvarez" without finding someone who knew him and loved him. Dr. Alvarez was truly a one-of-a-kind person and will be remembered for his incredible legacy, his courageous attitude, his incredible wit and humor, his musical prowess, and the immense love he had for his family.

A Mass celebrating his life will take place on March 12th, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Ascension Catholic Church in Melbourne.
