IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Tommie Jean Kirkland
Weeks
October 4, 1933 – March 26, 2026
Tommie Jean Kirkland Weeks, 92, of Melbourne, FL passed away early Thursday morning, March 26, 2026 at the VITAS Hospice IPC facility in Rockledge, FL.
Tommie was born to the late Ralph and Rubye Kinsey Kirkland on October 4, 1933 in Graceville, FL. She graduated from Graceville High School in 1951. Tommie was working at the Jackson Co. Motor Company in Mariana, FL when she met Jack Robert Weeks. He had brought his car in for service and the rest is history. They were married on May 12, 1956 in the Ozark Baptist Church in Ozark, AL. They later welcomed a son, John Michael in 1957 and a daughter, Karen Rubye in 1960.
The booming 1960's Space Industry brought Jack and Tommie to Brevard County in 1956 when Jack was hired by Pan Am World Services, Inc.. He retired in 1987 after 31 years. Tommie spent the early years of their marriage raising their children and working part-time jobs. Eventually she obtained her dream job with the Department of the Air Force Civil Service Comptroller's Office at Patrick Air Force Base in Cocoa Beach, FL. She received high praise for her great talent, versatility and dedication over her 21 years of devoted employment before retiring in March 1988. After some time traveling, including great new friendships created on a mountainside in Blairsville, GA something always brought Jack and Tommie back home to Brevard County...Probably the Grand-dogs!!
She was a avid Miami Dolphins fan dating back to the 1970's with the start of the Don Shula era, and of course she loved anything to do with the Florida Gators! Tommie loved to be outside whether roaming through a favorite GA mountainside, raking leaves at Jon & Karen's house, or in her final years walking the pathway around Discovery Village. Tommie loved to do quizzes and puzzles and was an excellent, hard-core Scrabble player. She could be found at the Discovery Village Scrabble board any day of the week. She taught several residents how to play and would play with anyone. She also played a wicked game of Ping-Pong and a killer game of Corn-Hole!
Undoubtedly over the years, her four-legged buddies were probably her biggest admirers (Leroy, Lance, Ray-Ban, Thunder and Roco). When they were together it was not obvious which one was the happiest. She loved to care for them especially cooking low-calorie foods to try to compensate for all the treats Jack would trade for dog wet kisses! Labrador Retrievers were hands-down Tommie's favorite dog breed, but she never missed a chance to love on any dog she had an opportunity to meet.
Tommie was predeceased by her loving husband of 68 years, Jack Robert Weeks of Melbourne and her only son, John Michael Weeks who died in 1992 at the age of 35 after a long, courageous battle with AIDS. Tommie forever remained an exceptionally proud mother of Mike.
Tommie was also predeceased by one of her siblings, Virginia Kirkland Lawrence.
Tommie is survived by one sibling, Ray (Gloria) Kirkland; a proud daughter, Karen (Jonathan) Murray; Also a very special nephew, Hayward (Jean) Hornsby, Tommie considered to be her “other” son. Numerous other nieces and nephews.
No service is scheduled at this time in FL. Jack and Tommie's ashes will be scattered together in the mountains they loved in northern Georgia later this summer.
