Thirrel A
Altman
Feb 26, 1930 — Feb 28, 2018
Merritt Island
Thirrel Adolphus Altman (T. A.) passed away on February 28, 2018.
T. A. was born in Johnsonville, South Carolina on February 26, 1930. He was the son of farmers Maxie and Bessie Altman. After serving his country in the US Army, he began a landscaping business eventually moving to Eau Gallie, Florida in 1957 with his wife Roberta.
They moved to Brevard to meet the growth challenges created by the Space Program, making T.A. one of the primary landscape contractors in the late 50's, 60's and 70's. His projects were varied and even included an Apollo launch pad and the Shuttle Landing Facility.
Eventually, his landscaping business grew into a land development, construction and commercial real estate company. Now, his business ventures include resort, residential, commercial, agricultural and environmental properties in Florida, South Carolina and West Virginia.
His hard work and dedication has made a significant and positive mark on Brevard County and those around him. His civic and political involvement helped shape our community into what it is today. However, T. A. Altman was best known for his love of his wife and family.
T.A. leaves behind his wife of 64 years, Roberta Miles Altman, children, Thad (Mary Pat) Altman, Debbie (Bob) Pooley and Alex (Melissa) Altman. Grandchildren, Becky (John) Tillery, Jennifer (Ray) Gentles, McKenzie, Hunter, Sullivan Altman and Marissa Altman. Great Grandchildren, Blair and Ben Tillery and R.J. Gentles.
The visitation will be on Saturday, March, 10th from 2:00p.m. to 3:00 pm. Funeral services will follow at 3 p.m. at Davis/Seawinds Funeral Home, 560 Montreal Ave. Eau Gallie, Florida.
