Obituary

Susan “Susie” Schurman McCallister

Susan “Susie” Schurman McCallister, 66, of Melbourne, Florida, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, with her beloved husband by her side.

Susie was born on January 24, 1960, in Huntington, West Virginia, to Albert Schurman and Lyda Jean Riley Schurman. She grew up in Huntington and attended Marshall University, where she was a proud member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority. She later moved to the Atlanta area, where she completed her nursing degree and began a career dedicated to caring for others.

Throughout her nursing career, Susie served patients with compassion and skill at Grady Memorial Hospital and Egleston Children’s Hospital in Atlanta. Her adventurous spirit led her to become a traveling nurse on the West Coast before accepting a position at San Diego Children’s Hospital. She eventually returned to Florida, where she worked at Orlando Children’s Hospital before retiring as a school nurse. Caring for children and helping others was not just her profession—it was her calling.

Outside of nursing, Susie had a lifelong love of all things Disney. Whether spending time at the parks, collecting Disney treasures, or simply enjoying the magic Disney brought to life, it never failed to bring a smile to her face. That sense of joy, wonder, and optimism was something she shared with everyone around her.

Susie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. She shared a loving marriage with her husband, William Edward McCallister Jr., whose unwavering love and companionship remained by her side until the very end.

She is survived by her husband, William Edward McCallister Jr.; her daughters, Amy Pierce (Stephen Roberts) and Ann Rank (Eric Greene); her cherished grandchildren, Payton Pierce, Gavin Pierce, and Zane Rank; her mother, Lyda Jean Schurman; her sister, Sally Leugers (Terry); her niece, Alissa Haney (Shannon); and her great-nephew, Braylen Haney. She was preceded in death by her father, Albert Schurman.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Davis Seawinds Funeral Home, 560 Montreal Avenue, Melbourne, Florida 32935. Family and friends are invited to a Welcome Reception beginning at 2:00 p.m., followed by the service at 3:00 p.m.

Flowers should be sent directly to Davis Seawinds Funeral Home by Friday, July 24, 2026. Those wishing to leave a message of condolence or share a favorite memory of Susie are invited to visit her memorial page at www.davisseawinds.com.

Susie will be remembered for her kind heart, her unwavering dedication to caring for others, her love for her family, and the joy she found in life’s simple moments—especially the magic of Disney. Her compassion, warmth, gentle spirit, and infectious smile will be deeply missed and forever cherished by all who knew and loved her.
