Steven Edward Shurmatz, 51, of Sebastian, FL, passed away Monday, February 27, 2023 with his love by his side
Steve was born to Henry Edward Shurmatz and the late Karen Lee Kamholz Poole on September 14, 1971 in Buffalo, New York. Steve graduated from Lancaster High School In Lancaster, New York in 1989 and moved to South Florida in the 1990's.
Steve was smart and scrappy. He was funny and had a way with words. He could sell anything. He sold meat from a truck, was a stockbroker, an account executive, and a business owner. Once moving to Sebastian, FL, Steve met the love of his life and found the job he loved with Jacuzzi-ThermoSpas.
Steve loved watching and playing hockey. He was a forever Buffalo Sabres fan. His other passion was music. He played drums with Wrecktifier for many years and continued to play at home as often as he could. May music be filling his soul with song. Steve loved to fish, hike, camp, play pool, play poker and chess. He loved the forest. It was his "happy place" to be under the hemlocks and pines. He said he always felt at home as long as he had his Laney and his dogs (Doey and Peachy).
Steve is survived by his partner and love, Alane (Laney) Berdy of Sebastian, FL; his father, Henry Shurmatz of Tonawanda, NY; his siblings, Daniel Shurmatz of Elma, NY Michael Shurmatz, Corey Shurmatz Kosowski his aunt, Nancy Kamholz, Jason Kamholz of Tonawanda, NY; cousins Denise Kamholz Miller, Matthew and Megan Miller of Niagara Falls, NY; his beloved dogs (Shadow and Peach) and many dear friends.
At Steve's request there will be no visitation or formal service. His ashes will be placed in the forest during a private send off on May 20, 2023.
In lieu of flowers, the family would invite you to donate to Friends of Allegany State Park. This organization is devoted to the preservation and the upkeep of Allegany State Park so everyone can enjoy the park for many generations to come.
