Sue Barrett, 82, of Indialantic, FL and
Fishers, IN
Sue Barrett, a 60-year resident of Carmel and Fishers, IN, and 22-year Floridian
passed away on April 15, 2021 at her home in Indialantic, FL after a year long
illness. She was 82.
Sue was born in Danville, Illinois to the late Martin and Emma (Truman) Switzer.
Sue grew up in Veedersburg, Indiana and graduated from Veedersburg High
School in 1956. She attended Purdue University, where she was a member of
the Alpha Chi Omega sorority and received a Bachelor's degree in Physical
Education in 1960 followed by a Master's Degree in Health Education from
Purdue in 1965. In August of 1960 she married Richard "Dick" Barrett of West
Lafayette, Indiana and moved to the Indianapolis area. Sue retired from IUPUI
as the Associate Dean and Chair of the School of Physical Education after a
distinguished 30 year career. Sue was the perfect hostess to many friends and
family. She and Dick loved entertaining and attending concerts every summer at
Conner Prairie.
Sue is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Dick, daughter, Amanda
Barrett Rice and her husband Ken of Noblesville, IN. She is also survived by her
grandchildren Ben and Lauren Rice, her sister, Mitzi (Gary) Stroup of Destin, FL
and her beloved dog Izzy.
Sue's ashes will be laid to rest during a private family service. A celebration of
her life will be held in the future.
