Obituary

Sharon Louise Quesinberry, 80, of Melbourne, Florida, passed away peacefully and comfortably on Sunday July 6, 2025.

She was the oldest of three, born November 12, 1944 in Eleva-Strum, Wisconsin, to parents Lucille and Harold Holden. This farm girl loved science and kept a number of lab mice in the basement, much to her parents displeasure. After high school, she attended the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire graduating with a major in Social Work. In 1967 she began working in the Northwoods of Wisconsin at the Forest County Courthouse, and soon her co-workers thought she should meet Verl Quesinberry. Always safety conscious, she asked trusted gas station owner (and Verl's brother-in-law) Norman Tyler to accompany them on the first date. After a few short months of romance, Sharon and Verl married on August 26, 1967.

Sharon attended graduate school at Florida State University in Tallahassee. The couple had their first daughter, Avis, in May 1969 while living there, and returned to Wisconsin before Wendy was born in November 1970. One morning Verl told Sharon "Today is the last day I'm shoveling snow. You need to quit your job." She did just that and they made their way back down to Tallahassee. That winter there was a light dusting of snow, so they packed up once again, settling off to Melbourne, Florida, which appeared to be officially snow-free.

Sharon was an incredible seamstress, sewing clothes, costumes, prom dresses, wedding dresses, and upholstery. There was rarely a time when her creativity wasn't in use. She and Verl would think up products and make prototypes as a team—PVC Pipe chairs with colorful canvas seating, hand-painted tile tables, and cushioned seating on redwood planters.

She worked as a social worker for several years at Easterseals in Melbourne before changing careers and becoming a parts specialist at Harris Corporation, retiring in 2014.

Sharon was a great mom and fantastic granny, taking summer trips to Wisconsin with her two grandsons. Always a good sport and up for anything, in 2008 Sharon undertook her first international trip to Paris with Wendy and son-in-law Todd. For several years after, she traveled with Wendy, Todd, and his family, returning to France and throughout Italy.

Sharon is survived by her daughter Wendy Quesinberry and son-in-law Todd Christensen of Seattle, son-in-law Matt Powell of Oviedo, grandsons Cooper Powell of Orlando and Ty Powell (fiancé Melody Nelson) of Tampa. She is also survived by her brother Delaine Holden and sister-in-law Carol of Rochester, Minnesota, and brother-in-law Patrick Gentry of Altoona, Wisconsin. She was preceded in death by her daughter Avis Powell (1969–2001), husband Verl (1924–2005), and sister Mary Gentry (1951–2017).

A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 10 at 2pm, with services at 3pm at Davis Seawinds Funeral Home. Burial will take place 11am on Friday at Oviedo Cemetery.

Anyone wishing to make a donation in Sharon's honor can donate to the "A-Team"—a fundraising team for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation started by Wendy, as a tribute to her sister Avis: https://fundraise.cff.org/seattleclimb/thewendyq .
