IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sara Jean
Overstreet
March 28, 1929 – September 10, 2021
Sara Jean Overstreet, a long time resident of Satellite Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully Friday night, September 10 at the age of 92. Sara Jean was a native of Louisiana and graduated from Louisiana State University (LSU) in Baton Rouge in 1949. She was working in Texas when she met her husband to be, Lt. Col. Robert S. Overstreet (Bob or "RS"). They married at the LSU Chapel in 1950.
Sara Jean was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Lt. Col. Robert S. Overstreet; by her mother, Sara Cox Casey; by her father, Rudy Faktor; and by her sister, Bobbi Brooks. She is survived by her six children : Laura Ridley, Bob Overstreet, Alice Overstreet, Bruce Overstreet, Frank Overstreet, and Dan Overstreet. She is also survived by her six grandchildren : Sean Ridley, Michael Overstreet, Jennifer Overstreet, Sara Greenwood, Evan Overstreet, and Will Overstreet. In addition, she is survived by her three great grandchildren : Grace and Charles Ridley, and Bjorn Greenwood.
During their early years of marriage, Sara and her husband lived in a variety of locations including Texas, New Mexico, Japan, Louisiana, and then settled in Ft. Walton Beach, Florida. They opened their own business, Overstreet Frozen Foods, where they made Mario's Frozen Pizzas and distributed them throughout the Southeast. Sara Jean managed the business while her husband worked fulltime as an engineer at Eglin AFB.
In 1965, her husband, Bob (RS), accepted a position with NASA's Unmanned Launches at Cape Canaveral, Florida. They sold their business and moved to Indialantic, Florida where Sara Jean became a stay-at-home mom for their six children.
Over the years, Sara Jean stayed active with church events and assisting those in need. Unfortunately, her husband became ill for several years and passed in 1986. Sara Jean continued staying active by being a Books on Wheels volunteer, disaster relief volunteer, plus participating in several missions (including one to China).
Giving consideration to the prevailing covid related health concerns, the family has planned an intimate graveside funeral of immediate family at Florida Memorial Garden's New Veterans Garden on Saturday, October 2, 2021 at 11 am. Sara Jean will be interred adjacent to her predeceased husband, Lt. Col. Robert S. Overstreet.
Thank you for all your love and concern for her over the years. Donations in Sara Jean Overstreet's memory may be made to Samaritan's Purse or Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.
