IN LOVING MEMORY OF
S. Wayne
Mann
May 15, 1939 – September 14, 2023
S. Wayne Mann, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully at his home on September 14, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. He was 84 years old.
Born in the coal mining town of McAlpin, West Virginia, on May 15, 1939, to Seldon and Mae Mann, Wayne was a beacon of resilience and ambition. After graduating from Sophia High School in 1957, he and his friends left Beckley, West Virginia, for Miami, Florida, in 1958. This bold move marked the start of a new chapter in Wayne's life.
In Miami, Wayne joined Kinney Shoe Store, where his dedication and hard work were quickly recognized. He was promoted to manager and tasked with opening a new store in Melbourne, Florida, in 1959. It was in this year that Wayne's life took another beautiful turn when he met Marilyn, his future wife. The couple married on November 1, 1959, and Marilyn moved to Melbourne to start their new life together.
Wayne's professional journey flourished further in Melbourne. In 1965, he co-founded Babcock Building Supply with his business partners, Bob Hurd and Albert Hunton (his father-in-law). The business grew to encompass eight stores and eight lawn and garden centers, a testament to Wayne's leadership and entrepreneurial spirit.
Beyond his professional pursuits, Wayne was an avid antique and classic car collector, NASCAR fan, and an enthusiastic collector of various items, from guns & knives to matchbox cars. Based on his philosophy of "he who dies with the most toys, wins", he was a winner! His collection of toys was second to none. His wonderful sense of humor, beautiful smile, and flirtatious personality brought joy and laughter to those around him.
Wayne is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Marilyn; his son, Jeff and wife Joanna; his daughter, Cami Hester and her husband, Tim; six grandchildren, Josh (Lindsay) Hester, Colten Mann, Logan Hester, Kodee DeMarco (Ryan), Kendall Hester, and Jazmin Mann; and three great-grandchildren, Nora Mann, Laurel Hester, and Daisy DeMarco. His memory will also live on through his many cousins and friends.
A celebration of Wayne's life will be held on Thursday, September 21, 2023, at 3:00 pm at Faith Fellowship Church, located at 2820 Business Center Boulevard, Melbourne, FL.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to Hospice of Health First, 3300 S Fiske Blvd, Rockledge, FL 32955, or Faith Fellowship Church, 2820 Business Center Blvd, Melbourne, FL 32940.
May his memory continue to inspire and bring joy to all who knew him.
