Obituary

Ruby M. Smith, 90, of West Melbourne passed away peacefully at Melbourne Terrace on Aug. 11, 2026, after complications from a recent fall. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Smith.

Ruby was a resident of West Melbourne for over 62 years. She graduated from Auburndale High School in 1954 and soon after married Frank while he was in the Army & stationed in AZ. After his discharge in 1955, they moved to Melbourne in the University Park area before eventually relocating to Melbourne Village in 1964.

Ruby’s love for children led her to volunteering as a Gray Lady at both Meadowlane Elementary & Central Jr. High School during the 60’s & 70’s. As her children got older, she worked in the Photography industry for over 25 years with both Stanley Studios and Rhoden Studios before eventually retiring.

Ruby loved bowling and participated in the women’s leagues at Brunswick Lanes, where she also served for many years as the Treasurer. After Frank’s retirement, they built a log cabin in Andrews NC where they made lasting memories with family and friends for over 37 years. She also enjoyed potting & growing plants, and her two favorites were Desert Rose’s & soil-free orchids.

Ruby is survived by her children Pam Klenck (Bill) and Steve Smith (Sandy). Grandchildren Jennifer Allen, Emilee Smith, Conner (Lexie) Smith and great grand-children Kaleb Ratliff and Kinlee Allen. Ruby has been a member of the Wesley United Methodist church in West Melbourne since its inception back in 1967.

Miss Ruby, Big Rube, Mom, or Mee Maw, as she was lovingly known, will be missed by many. The family is having a celebration of life at Wesley United Methodist Church, 2075 Meadowlane Ave., West Melbourne, FL 32904, on Saturday, Aug. 29th at 11:00 am.
