Obituary

Robert D (Bob) Smith, 85, of Melbourne Beach, Florida passed away Tuesday, April 28, 2020 at Holmes Regional Hospital in Melbourne, Florida.

He was born in Douds, Iowa on April 6, 1935 to Roscoe and Myra (Ward) Smith. Bob started school in Libertyville, Iowa and moved with his family to Buckeye, Arizona in 1950 where he graduated from Buckeye Union High School in 1953.

Bob loved sports and played both basketball and baseball for BUHS. After high school, he moved to Ottumwa, Iowa and worked for John Morrell in the order and billing department, where he met his future wife, Dee Ann Morrow. They were married November 18, 1956. He later moved to the data processing department and in 1970 was transferred to Memphis, Tennessee as the Data Processing Manager.

While working for Morrell's in Ottumwa, Bob managed the John Morrell Yankees Little League team. Since the age of 9, he was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and always enjoyed attending games. He also took great pleasure in following his children and grandchildren in their various sports.

After Memphis, Bob and Dee Ann lived in several states and eventually settled in Melbourne Beach which Bob considered his "little piece of paradise".

He is survived by, wife Dee Ann; children David (Teresa) of Eads, TN; Steve (Phoebe) of Lakeland, TN; and Cheri (Lonnie) Brown of Melbourne Beach, FL; He is also survived by six grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sixteen step-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Judy Hatch of Anthem, AZ. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and an infant granddaughter.

Per Bob's wishes, his body has been cremated and no services are planned.
