Robert Nash "Bob" Brown, 58, passed from this life on June 5, 2015. At the time of his sudden death, he was living in Jacksonville, Florida receiving treatment at the Mayo Clinic for recently diagnosed lung cancer. Bob had moved to Indialantic, Florida in December, 2014 from Eagle, Colorado. He was Administrator and Director of Innovative Technologies and Research for Weiss and Newberry Medical Associates in Florida, and for Weiss Medical Associates in Colorado. Previously, he had been Program Director at Tampa Crossroads, a large not-for-profit human services program in western Florida.
A memorial service is planned for 10:30am Saturday, June 20, 2015 at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Community in Indialantic, Florida. The celebration of his life will continue with a 1pm luncheon reception at the Yellow Dog Caf in Malabar, Florida.
He is survived by his daughter Kelsey Leanne Brown of Denver, Colorado; sister Patricia Brown McCallum (John) of Oracle, Arizona; brother William D. "Don" (Cheryl) Brown of Randolph, New Jersey; Cathleen "Cilla" Brown (Gary) Weiss of Indialantic, Florida and Eagle, Colorado and many nieces, nephews and close friends who will deeply miss his sharp wit and powerful yet gentle presence. Bob was loved and respected for his brilliant intellect and his profound compassion, kindness and determination to ease the suffering of others. Together, these characteristics shaped a long and fruitful career in the medical and social services fields.
He attended St. Benedict's Prep in Newark, New Jersey and graduated from Serra High School in San Mateo, California. He studied at San Diego State University and Lincoln Technical Institute, becoming a master automotive technician as a young man. After earning degrees in both chemistry and biology from the University of South Florida in Tampa, he went on to earn a Master's degree in rehabilitation and mental health counseling from USF. He was not only an insightful and gifted therapist, but was a natural leader and innovator. He designed, managed and obtained funding for numerous ground-breaking programs for homeless veterans, survivors of violence, addicted mothers and their children, recently released inmates trying to start new, drug-free lives and other groups of people often forgotten or disregarded by society.
His career with Weiss Medical, based in Palm Bay, Florida, ranged from direct patient care, management and marketing to development and funding of new research protocols and treatment technologies for patients enduring serious health challenges such as multiple sclerosis, chronic pain, addiction, cancer, Alzheimer's, brain injury and post -traumatic stress disorder. He was particularly supportive of the development of immunotherapies and cancer vaccines where the patient's own immune system is enhanced to fight cancer. He had hoped to pursue experimental immunotherapy for his own cancer.
Born November 14, 1956 in New Jersey, Bob was the devoted son of Robert Nash Brown, Sr. and Mary Ruth Costello Brown of Spring Lake, New Jersey; and the loving brother of Barbara Ann Brown (John) Verkleeren of Carlsbad, California, all of whom he lost to cancer. When he was diagnosed with cancer just a year after his sister's death, he decided that if he survived, he would spend the rest of his life working to fund and develop innovative treatment and prevention approaches to cancer.
To carry out that wish, and to keep his spirit of compassion and commitment alive, Bob's daughter Kelsey Leanne Brown, of Denver, Colorado, has established the Robert Nash Brown (RNB) Eagle Foundation for Cancer Innovation and Education. Kelsey has inherited her father's passion for reducing human suffering and she is pursuing graduate studies in public health at the University of Colorado. She will be joined in the work of this new foundation by many of Bob's nieces, nephews and friends who are professionals or students of nursing, medicine and psychology. The first projects of the new foundation will be an intervention program for parents who continue to smoke around their children, a fund supporting cancer patients seeking immunotherapy not covered by insurance, and a research project exploring new delivery systems for immunotherapy to brain tumors.
Tax deductible donations in Bob's memory can be made to "Action for Children" which has created a fund for the establishment of the RNB Eagle Foundation while tax exempt status is pending for the new foundation (write RNB Eagle Foundation fund on the check memo line). A golf tournament to raise funds for the RNB Eagle Foundation (and to celebrate Bob's devotion to the joy of golf) will be planned in the next year. Correspondence can be directed to:

Bob's family deeply appreciates all the support they have received. All friends are invited to join them at Holy Name Church, and at the beach directly across the street immediately after the service for a "swim out" and Native American ceremony to honor Bob's love of nature, and particularly the ocean.

Bob's daughter, family and friends plan to make several pilgrimages in the future to carry his cremains to places around the world that were sacred and special to Bob, including Montana, , Ireland, Pebble Beach, California and Laguna San Ignacio, Mexico. Bob very much wanted to make the pilgrimage of the Camino de Santiago (the Way of St. James) to the shrine of the Apostle St James in Galicia, Spain. We who loved him, and who will be loved by him always, will be honored to accompany him on that journey.
