Richard Joseph Sabol, 89, of Melbourne, died Saturday, September 2nd, 2023, with family by his side.
He was born to the late Joseph and Helen Sabol on March 21, 1934, in Yonkers, NY. Richard graduated from Commerce High School in Yonkers.
At seventeen, Richard joined the U.S. Marines. In 1952 at the age of 18, Richard was an Infantry Soldier in the Korean War. In 1953, after the Korean War, Richard joined the Yonkers Police Department. Richard was a member of The Color Guard of the Yonkers Police Department. He then joined the New York City Police Department and received his detective's shield. Later he became a sergeant and lead the Sergeants Benevolent Association in Brooklyn.
Richard retired as a New York City Police Sergeant of the 73rd precinct in Brooklyn. He relocated to Melbourne, FL in 1990.
Richard was a proud Marine. A voracious reader with a quick wit, and a great sense of humor. He loved watching football and golf. He never met a stranger. A generous and kind man.
Richard is survived by his wife, Cindy; children, Sean, Richard, Terence, Joseph and Elizabeth. His sisters Dorothy and Carol. Seven grandchildren and two great- grandchildren. Richard is also survived by his former wife Arlene Wisneski.
He was preceded in death by parents Joseph and Helen Sabol, brother Edward Sabol, daughter, Michaele, and former wife, Teresa Owens.
Private services will be held.
