IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Rawleigh Vernon
Hartwell Jr.
December 16, 1949 – December 9, 2022
Sonny was born December 16, 1949 and gained his wings on December 9, 2022, peacefully at home after a long battle with lung disease. He leaves behind, to cherish his memories, his wife Donna, who was the love of his life for 61 years and children Heather and John Terry, as well as John and Sandra Hartwell. These two couples blessed him with three grandsons. Brandon Terry / Skylor Sinclair, Luke Terry and Jackson Hartwell. Two great-grandchildren Aiden Terry and an honorary Olivia Noah. Sonny had 7 sisters and 5 brothers and many nieces and nephews. He had a special bond with his nephew Christopher Thompson and his family Jeni, Luna and Violet, where he was known as the "Greats." He also shared a love of his blended Florida family, The Arnolds.
Family, Marine Corp & his love of Country is what drove Sonny to be the man he was. He still shares time with the Marines he served with in Vietnam. To them he will always say Semper Fi.
Sonny loved playing ball, running, camping and traveling with his family and friends. He was proud to have served in Vietnam and paid tribute to the Service members today by volunteering with AVET Project after retirement. Sonny made friends easily and had too many to name but they all knew that they held a special place in his heart.
When we remember him, we will think of his smile, his cover and his voice. He could sing a mean In the Jungle and Signs Around a Campfire! But most of all we will remember his beautiful blue eyes and the sparkle they had when he was with or doing the things he loved.
To him we will always be Forever Faithful.
Sonny's wishes were to be interred in Cape Canaveral National Cemetery. Arrangements will be announced.
In lieu of flowers a donation may be made in his name to Toys for Tots or AVET Projects Inc., PO Box 254555, PSFB, FL 32925.
