March 29, 1966 – June 25, 2025
On June 25th, 2025, Master Gunnery Sergeant (MGySgt) Pearse Gerard Kearns was called to guard the streets of heaven. Pearse was born in Brooklyn, NY on March 29, 1966 to the late Brendan and Ann Elizabeth Kearns (Geagan). The son of Irish immigrants, he was a first generation American who spent his entire adult life proudly serving his country and community. He graduated Cornwall Central High School in 1984 and soon after joined the United States Marine Corps. He served in the Marine Corps for 30 years before retiring in 2014. During one of Pearse's many combat tours he rescued Skinny, the dog he loved so much. Pearse also served his community first with NYC Corrections, then with the FDNY, retiring in 2018 after nearly 30 years. He was a proud member of the FDNY working at Engine 42 in "da Bronx" for most of the years, finishing up his career at the Brooklyn Navy Yard.
Pearse is survived by his soulmate and fiancé, Deborah Gardner, and his children Brendan of El Paso, Texas, Erin, PJ, Thomas, and Kayla, all of Orange County, New York. In addition, he is survived by his brother Brendan and wife Pat, brother Dermot and wife Carol, and sister Denise and husband Steve, as well as a niece and several nephews. Survivors also include his extensive family relations in Ireland.
His retirement plans included his years long desire to live at the beach. In 2020 he moved to Melbourne Beach, Florida, his house at the beach was his happy place. Pearse and Deb often hosted family and friends at their home and shared his new found love of horticulture.
The wake will be held on July 8, 2025, with visitations from 2:00–4:00 PM and 6:00–8:00 PM at Davis Seawinds Funeral Home, 560 Montreal Avenue, Melbourne, FL 32935. The funeral service will take place at the same location on July 9, 2025, at 10:00 AM.
