Patricia Downey Marshall passed away on July 7, 2012, her 70th birthday due to complications from surgery. She was born on July 7, 1942 in Jackson Heights, N. Y. to Lottie Szczepanik of Polish descent and George A. Downey, Sr. of lrish descent. "They all loved corned beet and cabbage on St. Patrick's Day."
Pat attended Resurrection Ascension School in Rego Park, N.Y. and then Dominican H.S. After graduating, she went to the prestigious Katharine Gibbs School which was a premier secretarial school. Employers usually picked these girls first because they were well trained for office work.
In 1965, she came to Florida with her parents. She worked as a secretary for different companies. Pat was working for GMRS for quite a few years up until the time of her death.
Pat volunteered at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Palm Bay. She was a volunteer tor religious education classes and was active in Brownies and Odyssey of the Mind. Later, when she moved to Melbourne she regularly attended Ascension Catholic Church and was often a sponsor for people entering the church (RCIA Program).
Pat is survived by her loving daughter Michelle and one granddaughter, Aidan, age 12. She is also survived by her brother George, his wife Florence and many nieces and nephews.
Pat was a happy and loving person and enjoyed being with people. She was a small person with a big heart. She will be greatly missed.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Ascension Catholic Church, Melbourne on Wednesday, July 11 at 11:30 AM. Burial will be immediately following at Florida Memorial Gardens, US1 in Rockledge.
