Olga Catechis, 82, of Cocoa, passed away Saturday, January 12, 2013.
Born on April 12, 1930 to Angelo and Anna Catechis. At 17, moved to the United States from Fano Greece in 1947. She self-taught herself English. At 19, she married and had two sons, Aleck and George in Corpus Christi, Texas.
She Provided never ending maternal and personal support to anyone and especially her family and their significant others. In 1959, she ran Johnnies Restaurant in Cocoa Beach for her brothers, (John and Speedy), and then the Dixie Diner in Cocoa until 1966. In 1966, she offered talents, along with her brother John, for her son, Aleck, at Murdock's in Cocoa Village.
She was known for her Elizabeth Taylor striking good looks, always smiling and inviting personality. She had an incomparable talent for cooking, baking, and sewing her own clothes. She was willing to teach her Greek recipes with only a promise not to change them. In addition, she was influenced by her sister, Tula, who was married to a Greek Orthodox priest in Corfu, Greece, for her strong religious beliefs. She was enjoyed by everyone and will be sorely missed.

Survived by her brother, Spiro (Toni) Catechis; sons, Aleck Greenwood (Linda Fortenberry), George Greenwood (Jackie Soudiero). Others include Valarie Grant, Eileen Byrd, Norma Catechis, Beverly Catechis; 6 nieces, USA; 2 in Greece; 1 in Australia; nephews, 3 in USA; 2 granddaughters in USA. Preceded in rest by sister, Tula (Jon) Catechis, USA.
