IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Nora Marlene
Walker
October 6, 1933 – February 28, 2026
Mass
Nora Marlene Walker, 92, known as Marlene to many and affectionately as Mike to cherished family and friends, died peacefully on Saturday, February 28.
She was born in Muskingum County, Ohio on October 6, 1933, to the late John and Frances McKee.
In 1953, she married Bill Walker. They resided in Columbus, Ohio prior to relocating to Melbourne, Florida in 1954, where the following year they lovingly welcomed Christine, their first of six children.
Along with their growing family, Marlene and Bill witnessed the growth and development of Florida's Space Coast and were founding members of Ascension Catholic Church, Ascension Catholic School, and Melbourne Central Catholic High School.
In 1966, their fifth child, a beautiful baby boy, Billy, was born with Down Syndrome. Together, Marlene and Bill spent the rest of their lives tirelessly advocating for individuals with disabilities.
Marlene is preceded in death by her husband Bill, daughter Christine, sister and brother-in-law Patricia and Wayne Rickeart, stepfather Watt Moore, and half-siblings George Crawford, Helen Good, and Madelaine Nye.
She is survived by her sister-in-law, Mary Margaret (Ralph) DeBaise; five children: Mark (Sally) Walker, Bob (Sharon) Walker, Cherie (Stephen) Kingsland, Billy Walker, and Anita (Scott) Kealer; fourteen grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and adored nieces, nephews, and their children. She is also survived by Francisco (Mary Jean) Barros, a Brazilian exchange student Bill and Marlene hosted in 1974 who became a beloved member of the family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 19th, at Ascension Catholic Church, followed by a reception.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be gifted online to GiGi's Playhouse Tampa, FL, or non-perishable food items and toiletries be brought to the funeral service for donation to the Ascension Catholic Church Social Concerns Food Pantry.
