Nan Spady Crockett passed away on December 8, 2013 at the age of 95. She is predeceased by her loving husband, David Bartlett Crockett, Sr., her parents Southey Robert Spady, Sr. and Nan Williams Spady of Nassawadox, VA; her brother, Southey Robert Spady, Jr.of Eastville, VA and her sister, Mary Margaret Floyd of Bridgetown, Va. She is survived by her brother Donald Spady and wife, Eileen, of Hampton, VA; her daughter, Ann C. Clark of Tucson, AZ; her son, David B. Crockett, Jr. and wife Barbara of Portsmouth, VA; and her daughter, Mary Margaret Mann of W. Palm Bay, FL; her grandsons Charles, David and Donald Clark of Tucson, AZ; her grandson, David B. Crockett, III and wife Shelly of York, SC; and Daniel Davis of Richmond and John Davis of W Palm Bay, FL; her great grandchildren, David B Crockett, IV, Renee Crockett Phillips and husband, Michael; and Lindsay Crockett, 6 great grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren.

Born and raised on the Eastern Shore of Virginia, Nan followed her husband's career to the Newport News (Newport News, VA) Shipyard and the Norfolk Naval Shipyard (Portsmouth, VA) She and her husband settled into the Simonsdale subdivision, still under construction as housing for shipyard workers during WWII. While there, she and her husband helped establish the Simonsdale Presbyterian Church, the Simonsdale Civic League; Sr. Girl Scouts Camp at Sherwood Forrest in Norfolk County, VA; when the children in Simonsdale needed a wholesome activity on the weekends, she and her husband and several other couples founded the Simonsdale Teen Club. It was so influential in the lives of the Simonsdale community, that to this day the original members, their children, and even grandchildren make the trip back for the Annual Simonsdale Teen Club Reunion. Nan was the last of the surviving founders and was honored with a commemorative plaque. When her husband retired, they moved to Rappahannock River Estates in Tappahannock, Va. It was a private community on the Rappahannock River. As such, the participation of those residing there was required for maintenance of roads, waterfront, and piers. Nan and her husband founded the Rappahannock River Estates Civic league. She held office as the Treasurer for 30 years. She and her husband also founded the Faith Baptist Church of Tappahannock, VA. Nan was an active participant in supporting the Church until her relocation to Melbourne, FL over twenty years ago. As a resident of Melbourne, Nan enjoyed a weekly bridge game, visiting assisted living facilities in the area to read stories and jokes to the residents. Soon after residing in Melbourne, Nan helped establish the Heritage Baptist Church of Melbourne, where she remained an active member until recent declining health began to limit her activities.

There will be a viewing at the Davis Seawinds Funeral Home from 1:00 - 3:00 PM, this Friday, December 13, 2013 in Melbourne, FL. A Memorial Service will follow at 3:00PM. Interment will take place at a later date in Tappahannock, VA where she will be laid to rest by the side of her beloved husband. The family would like to express their gratitude to the owners and staff of Salus Senior Services. Nan stated many times that she couldn't think of any place she would be any happier living.
