Nadine M. Brown (née Macdonald) – 95. Passed away peacefully, Tuesday, July 16, 2019, at her home in Melbourne, FL. Formerly of Vero Beach, Florida and Newton, Massachusetts.

Nadine was born on  March 17, 1924 in Boston, Massachusetts. She graduated from Newton Academy of the Sacred Heart in 1942 and attended the College of New Rochelle in New York for two years. In 1944, she married Charles A. Brown III. Soon after their wedding, they left to serve their country, she in the US Navy and he in the US Marine Corps.

Following their honorable discharge, she and Charles settled in Providence, RI, where they started their family, which eventually grew to seven children. Nadine returned to college in 1969, graduating from Boston University with a BA in Speech Pathology. In later years, she continued her education, taking master's level courses at the University of Central Florida.

Nadine, Charles and the younger children moved to Vero Beach in 1971. Nadine was the first full time speech pathologist with the Indian River County School District and later worked for the St. Lucie County School District. She was one of the founders of the first sheltered workshop in Vero Beach, Florida (currently known as the Adult Day Training facility of The Arc) and served on the ARC Board in various roles over the years. Nadine also played a significant part in the creation of Vero Beach's first residential group home. In 2011 Nadine moved to Melbourne Florida to live with her daughter Patricia.

Nadine was an intelligent, determined, and giving person. She cared for her large family, including her son Michael, who was severely handicapped from birth, seeking out opportunities for him, such as coaching him for his first Holy Communion in the Catholic Church. She also cared for her husband for the decades he suffered from rheumatoid arthritis.

Nadine took joy in viewing and making art and leaves behind watercolors, acrylics, and pastels that will brighten the lives of her children and others for years to come. She loved music, sailing, and body surfing. She was fearless and successful in taking on house renovation projects.

Nadine and her daughter Patricia belonged to the Melbourne Yacht Club, whose members always made Nadine feel welcome. She enjoyed the Melbourne Municipal Band "Not in the Park" summer concerts and the MetOpera HD Live Broadcasts.

Nadine is survived by her children Charles A. (Donna Blakelee) Brown IV, Patricia M. Brown, William (Eleanor) Brown, Matthew (Aldona Pauliukonis) Brown and Sid (Lucia K. Dale) Brown; granddaughters Casie, Hannah, and Sarah Brown; and sisters-in-law Deena Macdonald, Betty Geehan, and Marguerite Hummell. Nadine's husband Charles and two sons Michael and Raymond predeceased her. The family is grateful to all those who helped Nadine throughout her life, especially those who came to her in these last few years, with special thanks to her aides Donna Melchi, Agatha Morris, Linda Chessman, and Margie Ayala, former aides Dianne Brown and Pat Ulrey, and everyone at Comforts of Home Care and Vitas Hospice.
