Myron Bennett Barrow - Celebrating His Life

Myron Bennett Barrow, 85, of Melbourne, Florida, joined his Heavenly Father on April 29, 2017. He was born in DeLand, Florida, on April 17, 1932 to the late Henry and Laura Barrow. When Myron was a year old his family (parents and older brother William Adair) moved to Orlando, FL, where he attended Miller Memorial Baptist Church, accepted Christ as his Saviour, graduated from high school, joined the Florida National Guard, and married Del Coker. He worked for the Orlando Star Newspaper for 22 years before becoming a Federal Civil Service employee at the USA Reserve Center in Orlando. In 1981, he moved to Indian Harbour Beach, FL, after accepting the civilian position of Operations and Training Officer with the Army Readiness Group at Patrick AFB, FL, retiring in 1992 from Civil Service. Myron served proudly and honorably in the US Army and Reserve for approximately 37 years, attaining the rank of Colonel. He was the Staff Training Officer for the 143rd Transportation Brigade and later the Commander of the 464th Chemical Group in Orlando, when he retired from the military service.
Myron is survived by his wife of 37 years, Margaret D. Barrow; sons: Alan and wife Donna of Winter Park, FL, William (Bill) of Clermont, FL, and David of Melbourne, FL; stepsons: John and James (Butch) Chastain of Melbourne, FL; and brother Edwin (Eddie) Barrow of Orlando, FL. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Myron was a responsible, loving and caring father, involved in the various activities his sons enjoyed, to include little league baseball, soccer, and riding and racing dirt bikes around Florida.


He enjoyed traveling to over two dozen countries outside of the USA, to include two trips to Israel where he walked the paths that Jesus had trod. Of special significance to him was his reading of the Beatitudes in Matthew 5 as he stood on the side of the mountain where Jesus spoke those words so long ago. He was in 47 of our 50 states, missing Wyoming, Montana, and Rhode Island. He truly enjoyed visiting all the places and recalling the memories of the people and their land after returning home.
Myron was a very positive individual, strong in his convictions, setting high standards and studying to improve himself in all aspects. His work ethics were impeccable. He took great pride in maintaining his home, and working in the yard to beautify the landscape was important to him. These same work ethics were displayed while he held a position of Trustee at Harbor City Baptist Church helping to keep God's house in good order and pleasing to our Lord.
In April of 2012, Myron became a member of Beacon Baptist Church in Melbourne, where we are celebrating his life.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made out to Beacon Baptist Church in memory of Myron. These funds will be used for the church's chosen project of purchasing new tables and chairs for the dining room at the CITA (Christ is the Answer) Mission in Melbourne, where on average 60 needy men temporarily reside.
