Obituary

Grant Van Hoesen, 81 of Athens, NY, passed away on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, peacefully in his Florida home surrounded by his immediate family. Born in Albany, NY, Grant was the son of the late Morton and Doris Van Hoesen and the devoted husband of Lorrie Van Hoesen (Otis) for 60 years.

In 1966 Grant graduated from Harpur College (Binghamton University) married Lorrie, was drafted by the Army and sent to basic training in Fort Leonardwood, Missouri. He was stationed in Fort Sill, Oklahoma during the Vietnam War as an artillery officer until his discharge as First Lieutenant in 1969.

Grant began his long and distinguished career in New York State government in 1970 until his retirement as Director of the Human Resource Management Group for the NYS Health Department in 1999.

Grant was a man of principle and integrity who led by example, was respected by those who knew him, and loved and supported his family. He was also a talented bowler, achieving three perfect 300 games. In retirement, Grant enjoyed playing golf and spending quality time with his family and friends, often sharing games and laughter.

Grant is survived by his loving and dedicated wife Lorrie and brother James; children Krista Giancarlo (Matthew) and Steven Van Hoesen (Linda); grandchildren Geoffrey and Amelia Giancarlo, Russell and Nicholas Van Hoesen; great granddaughters Eveline, Marion, and Charlotte Giancarlo. He was predeceased by his brother Bill and sister DJ.
