Michael "Mike" William Wood, 76 passed away May 2, 2017 in Palm Shores, FL following a brief illness. He was born April 18, 1041 in Norwalk, Ct., the son of FHL "Leonard" Wood and Virginia Julia (Tyrrell) Wood. He was a long time resident of Lynn, MA.
He grew up in CT and Long Island, NY and after school he joined the Army in 1960. He was stationed in Germany for the duration of his enlistment. He was proud of his service and had a deep appreciation for others who also served our country. He met and fell in love with Gail F. (Thibodeau) in 1967 and married the same year. This November is the 50th anniversary.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his brothers, Henry and David and their spouses Eileen and Francis as well as his brother-in-law Mark Thibodeau.
He survived by his wife Gail of Palm Shores, FL, Their sons, Bruce and his wife Laura of Peabody, MA, Wayne and his wife Eliza of Brocton, MA. His sister, Susan Wood-Trembly and her husband Paul of Melrose, MA. His grandchildren, Jared of Brocton and Charlie and Colton of Peabody. He also leaves brother-in-laws, John Thibodeau and his wife Rita of Santa Clara, CA, Stephen Thibodeau and his companion Sharon of Puyallup, WA, Gary Thibodeau of San Jose, CA, Wayne Thibodeau of McKinleyville, CA and many nieces and nephews.
Mike worked in the telecommuniations industry finally retiring from Lucent Tech 2001. He was an avid reader, crossword doer and history buff. The family "gravy maker" his adventures in cooking will be missed. He had a passion for politics and boating. A long time member of the Saugus River Yacht club. He served in many capacities finally as commodore. He was also a member of the American Legion.
He will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by his family and friends. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, August 19, 2017 from 1 - 4 PM at Anthony's Hawthorne by the Sea in Swampscott, MA. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude's Hospital.
