Obituary

Merle William Lawrence went to be with the Lord on April 30, 2026, at the age of 95.

Born on April 21, 1931, in South Greensberg, Pennsylvania, he was the son of Margaret Baird and her only child. From an early age, Merle demonstrated a strong mind and a steady work ethic that would guide him throughout his life.

He graduated from Duquesne University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and Chemistry. Following his education, Merle faithfully served his country as an officer in the United States Air Force and Air National Guard for 31 years, where he held the position of Deputy Commander of Maintenance.

Merle was a man of deep faith and service, not only to his country but also to the church. He served faithfully as administrator and financial director for the ministries of Harbor City Baptist Church and Lifepoint Church. In recent years, he and his wife Grace became members of First Baptist Church of Melbourne, Florida, where they continued to worship and serve.

He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Margaret Baird, and his son, Larry Lawrence, Jr.

Merle is survived by his loving wife, Grace Lee Lawrence, and his children: Diane Engfer(Terry) of Hanna City, Illinois; Sue Robertson (Preston) of Northport, Alabama; James Hendrix of Charleston, South Carolina; Josh Hendrix (Ruth) of Yukon, Oklahoma; Noel Hendrix (Marcia) of Mills River, North Carolina; and Shelley Mitchell (Jeff) of Melbourne, Florida.

He is also survived by 29 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren, all of whom were a great source of joy and pride in his life.
