Melvin Peio, 84, passed away June 18, 2016.

He was born in Batavia NY to the late Francis and Dorothy Peio. The family later moved to Pennsylvania where Mel graduated from Cambridge Springs High School, Class of 49.

Mel was a longtime resident of Brevard County having moved here in 1954 to work for RCA at the Tech Lab PAFB, contributing to our country's space program. During this time, Mel was one of the early innovators creating machine-language programs for the Florida Automatic Computer (FLAC) to transform missile tracking data from missile tests into missile trajectory and performance data.
Mel continued his education at Florida Institute of Technology (now Florida Tech) while working full-time and supporting his family. After receiving his Bachelor of Science degree with high honors in 1967, Mel continued work toward his Master's degree while working and lecturing in Electrical Engineering at FIT. Mel received his Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering in 1974.
During his career as an electrical engineer, Mel worked at Radiation Inc. in Palm Bay FL. Mel moved to Herkimer NY 1969 to work at Mohawk Data Sciences. In 1972, Mel returned to Florida to accept a position at Harris ESD in Palm Bay. In 1975, he accepted a position with PRC at Kennedy Space Center to work on the Space Shuttle program.
Mel returned to work at Harris GCSD in 1978 where he contributed to highly successful programs until his retired in 1999.

Mel enjoyed sailing and SCUBA diving. Most of all he enjoyed being a loving father, grandfather and friend to all he knew. Mel leaves cherished memories for his daughters:
Celestia (James) Peio-Michael, Shelley Peio and Anna (Kevin) Wright; son Byron Scott Peio;
grandchildren Jordan and Alexandria Wright; brother Richard Peio, sister Marquerite Gosnell and many extended family members and friends.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
A memorial service will be held at Davis Seawinds, 560 Montreal Ave, Melbourne, FL 32935 on July 7, 2016 at 2pm.
