Obituary

A Celebration of Life service for Mavis (Mrs. Fred) Henning, 83, of Melbourne, FL, who died Monday, July 11th, 2016 at the William Childs Hospice House in Palm Bay, FL, will be at 6:30 PM Monday, July 18th at New Hope Lutheran Church, with burial in the St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, New Ulm, MN.
She is survived by daughter Joni (Sean O'Connell) of Melbourne, FL, sons Jim of New Ulm, John (Betty) of Melbourne, FL, and Jerry of New Ulm; and a brother, Delford Gronholz, of Saginaw, MI; eight grand-children and three great-grand-children.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Fred (1976), a brother, George Gronholz, Jr. (1983), an infant sister and two nephews.
Mavis was born February 12th, 1933 in Redfield, South Dakota to George and Hilda (Precht) Gronholz. She attended schools in Redfield, SD & Truman, MN, graduating from New Ulm High School in 1951. She studied radiologic technology at the College of Medical Technology in Minneapolis, MN, graduating as a medical technician in August 1952. She was united in marriage with Fred Henning on September 6th, 1952 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in New Ulm, MN. The couple lived briefly in Brookings, SD, Springfield, MN and San Antonio, TX; finally settling in New Ulm in 1956. She worked for F & M Bank of New Ulm and also Kraft Foods. In 1989, she became part owner of Margaret's ladies apparel store, retiring a few years later. She moved to Melbourne, FL in 2012.
She was a member of New Hope Lutheran Church. She enjoyed golfing, playing bridge, sewing, cooking and spending time with her friends and family.
