Maureen Blesser Laverty of Melbourne, passed away peacefully at home with her sister by her side on Tuesday, November 4, 2014. She was born on November 20, 1943 in Niskayuna, New York and grew up in Schenectady and later moved to Eau Gallie (Melbourne) Florida in 1964. She is survived by her sister Barbara Johnson (husband William) of Cocoa, her grandchild Kristin Laverty of Los Angeles CA, son Gerald Laverty of Kentucky and step-daughter Patricia Williams of West Melbourne. In addition, her extended family consists of nephew William Johnson II (wife Wannipa) of Palm Bay, niece Tamara Honea (husband Charles) of Melbourne, niece Barbara Scharich (husband Kirk) of Canton, GA, niece Stephanie Mitsch (husband Peter) of Andover KS., and several great-nieces and nephews. Maureen spent most of her entire life in the care-giving profession and was the Administrator of Carnegie Gardens until her retirement. She began her career as Admissions Director Receptionist at Carnegie Gardens Nursing Center in 1972, and by 1985 had worked her way up to being the Nursing Home Administrator until she retired in May of 2009. During her career she was the recipient of numerous professional awards and community service recognitions. She was known, loved and respected by many inside and outside the profession. A Celebration of Life will be held for Maureen at her favorite hangout, Rooney's Caf and Bar on Palm Bay road Saturday, November 29, 2014 at 5 p.m. Hors d'oeuvres will be complimentary, anything else will be Dutch Treat.
