Mathilde Schmidt, 79, departed this life peacefully on Sunday, November 24, 2013 at her home in West Melbourne, FL surrounded by her children, Charles Schmidt, William Schmidt and Gabriele Schmidt (Scott) Robinson.
Born on March 14, 1934 in Perlsberg, Germany, 'Hilde' was the only daughter of the late Rudolf and Franziska Grund; she had five older brothers who pre-deceased her. She married Rodolfo Henry Schmidt, a German-American serviceman in Wiesbaden, Germany in 1957. The family was transferred to Bellefontaine, Ohio in 1968 by the United States Air Force, where Mr. Schmidt was stationed and eventually retired after 20 years of service to make it their home. Mr. Schmidt passed away in 1972 after a brief illness.
After many years of being a military wife, working and raising a family, she took some time to travel and do the things that brought her happiness. In 1994, she retired to Florida to be near her grandchildren, Megan Robinson (Chris) Long and Steven Robinson. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and baking, bingo, sewing, crocheting and knitting, shopping and going out to lunch with her friends.
Mrs. Schmidt will be remembered by her family and friends as a loving mother and grandmother who truly appreciated the gift of life and who also touched the lives of many with her kindness and generosity. Mathilde's smile and laughter will be forever etched in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Her family will celebrate her life and fond memories privately.
