MARY HAZEL SHAMBAUGH, 98, went to be with her Lord and Savior on May 7, 2013. She was a resident of the Eau Gallie/Melbourne area for 59 years. She
began teaching dance in Akron, Ohio at the age of 13. She also danced professionally in California and New York during her late teens and twenties.
After moving to Eau Gallie with her husband and children in 1954, she opened a dance studio and taught for many years. She was a long- time member of the
Harbor City Retirees Social Club and the Homemakers Club, as well as serving as a "Pink Lady" hospital volunteer at Holmes Regional for over two decades. She and her husband Howard enjoyed camping in their RV and saw much of the country together. She was predeceased by her husband, Howard S. Shambaugh; her parents,
Lester and Mary Christman; her brother and sister-in-law, Bernard and Helen Christman; and her nephew, Msgr. Bernard Christman. She is survived by two sons, John H. and wife Mary of Marietta, Georgia; and Paul L. and wife Jerry-Ann of Satellite Beach, Florida; also by four grandchildren, Monte Shambaugh of Melbourne; Michael Shambaugh of Kennesaw, Georgia; Cindy Wilford of Marietta, Georgia; and David Shambaugh of Melbourne. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren, Ted and Kate Shambaugh, Erin and Rachel Wilford, and Sierra Shambaugh. Family will greet friends from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 12, 2013 at Davis Seawinds Funeral Home, Melbourne. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 13, 2013 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Melbourne. Interment will follow at Florida Memorial Gardens.
