Obituary

Mary Macol Roberts, 95, of Indian Harbour Beach, Florida., passed away peacefully at her home on March 22, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on February 19, 1929, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, Mary was the cherished daughter of the late George and Helen Beck Macol.

In her early days, Mary's life was rich with community and friendship, particularly with those from the Ritter and Moran families, who shared countless moments of joy and support. Her youth was marked by a strong connection to her roots and an active participation in the St. Nicholas Antiochian Orthodox Church. Alongside her family, Mary contributed significantly to the church's development—physically helping to build its structure and preparing meals for its congregation, embodying a spirit of service and community from a young age.

Mary grew up to be the matriarch of her family, a beacon of strength and resilience, overcoming numerous life challenges to support her three beloved children. She worked tirelessly, often juggling multiple jobs, including a long tenure waiting tables at the Galaxy Diner, to ensure their needs were met. Her caregiving nature knew no bounds; she devotedly cared for her aging parents, her late husband Fred Roberts of Shelton, Connecticut, and her companion later in life, Raymond George Radcliffe of Indian Harbour Beach, Florida.

Mary's resilience and unwavering commitment to her family established her as the rock of her family. Her sharp wit, dry sense of humor, and candid demeanor made every moment with her memorable. At any given family gathering, Mary was the heart of the event through her cooking. Her culinary skills, particularly her Middle Eastern recipes, ensured that no one ever left the table hungry.

Retiring to Indian Harbour Beach, Florida, in the 2000s, Mary embraced the Florida sunshine, continuing to live a life filled with love, laughter, and the company of her adored children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her visits with them were among the joys of her later years.

Even when the family faced the heartbreaking loss of Mary's son Jerry Roberts and daughter Kymberly Roberts, Mary's strength and love continued to be a source of comfort and inspiration to her family.

Mary was lovingly looked after by her family, notably her devoted grandson Dean Dennis, and her long-term caretaker, Karie Seremetis, whose dedicated service and friendship for nearly 17 years before Dean took over, were invaluable.

Mary is survived by her son George Roberts and his wife, Doris, of Hamden, Conn; grandchildren Michael, Michele, Mark, Marie, Ryan, Tammy, Dean, Alexa, and Leann; great-grandchildren Ginger, Brady, Carter, Cody, Ava, and Anthony; alongside many more relatives and friends who will dearly miss her.

A Celebration of Life for Mary is set for April 19th at Flames Mediterranean Restaurant.

Her legacy of love, resilience, and generosity will be forever cherished by all who knew her.
