Palm Beach Gardens

Mary Elizabeth Cahill, 90, passed peacefully from this world on Sunday, April 14th, 2013. Born on October 4th, 1922 in Orange, NJ, Mary was the daughter of the late Louis C. and Mary B. Rommel. Mary served proudly and honorably during WWII in the United States Navy WAVES reaching the rank of Seaman Third Class as an Aviation Machinists Mate. Mary joined the service when the country needed her the most and served from February 3rd, 1943 until November 15th, 1945. Mary and her husband, John moved to Orlando in the mid 1950's and then lived in Vero Beach and Palm Bay. Most recently she resided in Jupiter. In addition to raising her five children, Mary worked for Westinghouse, Blue Goose Groves, Piper Aircraft, and Harris Corporation. After retiring, she was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose lodge 1046 in Melbourne, and active in the Harris Corporation Retiree's Club. Mary is survived by her 5 children, 8 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren. Her warm, funny and loving spirit will remain forever in the hearts of her daughter, Joanne Berman and husband, Bob of Palm Beach Gardens; daughter, Susan Ellis and husband, Bob of Port St. Lucie; son, John Cahill and wife, Kim of Cape Coral; son, Bill Cahill and wife, Wendy of Key Largo; and son, Michael Cahill and wife, Elena of Sunrise; her grandchildren, Stacy, Brian, John, Lee, Sarah, Kim, Brittney, and Carissa; and her great-grandchildren Kylie, Caleb, Johnny, Charlie, Haley, and Jordan. She was preceded in rest by her husband, John and brothers, Charlie, Joe, and Lew Rommell. The family welcomes friends of Mary to a visitation on Sunday, April 21st, 2013 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., including a celebration of life service at 3pm at the Davis-Seawinds Funeral Home, 560 Montreal Ave., Melbourne, Florida. Interment with full military honors will occur at the South Florida National Cemetery, 6501 S. State Road 7, Lake Worth, FL at 10:45 AM on Monday, April 22.
