Mary Margaret Buvinger, 73, of Melbourne Beach, died Saturday, September 5, at her home in Melbourne Beach, FL. Mary was born to the late Wilson and Margaret Buvinger on Sept. 9, 1946, in Trenton N.J., and grew up in Enid, OK. She graduated from Mary Baldwin College in Staunton, VA and earned a Master's degree in Organic Chemistry from Purdue University. She worked as a researcher in the chemical polymer division of the Upjohn Company in Houston, Texas, before moving to Florida with her husband in 1982. Mary enjoyed running and cycling, and was a competitive tennis player for many years in the Brevard County Woman's League. She was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease in 2007, but didn't let the disease slow her down, and even participated in the 30th anniversary Pineappleman Triathlon in 2015. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Mary is survived by her husband, Thomas Hoffman, and son Matthew Hoffman, of Melbourne Beach, FL, sisters Anne Buvinger of Edmond, OK, Sarah Welch of Tulsa, OK, Nancy Buvinger of Los Angelas, CA, Lois Williams of Bakersfield, CA, and brother Wilson Buvinger of Enid, OK. The family plans a private memorial service. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the National Parkinson's Foundation. |
