IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Marion J.
Brown
October 10, 1935 – January 8, 2026
Our cherished matriarch, Marion J. (Joann) Brown, who graced this world for 90 beautiful years, passed away peacefully surrounded by family she so deeply loved. Her life was a testament to devotion — devotion to her faith and to her family.
Joann was born to the late Verney and Bernice Rogers on October 10, 1935 in West Frankfort, IL. She graduated from Zeigler High School and married the love of her life, Robert (Bob) Brown in 1955. They traveled all over the world during Bob's time in the US Air Force, including the Philippine Islands, until he took a civil service job at Patrick Air Force Base. They settled in Melbourne in 1962 where Joann was a bookkeeper in the banking industry until she retired in 1990. Bob and Joann stayed rooted in Melbourne where they would raise their family.
Joann was the heart and glue of a large family, treasured by her children Sandi (Dennis) Silver, Warden (Dianne) Brown, and Donna (Pete) Hatch, as well as fourteen grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren — all who adored her beyond measure. She was predeceased by her husband Bob, son Chris, and grandson Andy.
Each one felt uniquely understood by her through quiet conversations on her comfy living room chairs with cats underfoot, warm hugs after dinner (Shells being her favorite), or a loving card in the mail to those far away.
Her commitment to family was lifelong. She believed that family was life's greatest blessing, and she lived that belief every day — celebrating milestones, offering guidance, and showing up with unconditional love. Her home was a place of comfort, belly laughs, and holiday rituals that always included some kind of casserole, fudge, or her famous cheeseball.
Her faith was a cornerstone of her life. A devoted member of River Run Christian Church, she found purpose in service, community, and prayer. She served in many capacities through the years; most recently she coordinated the prayer chain and was a co-leader for the Care and Share group. Her kindness and steady grace reflected the values she held and practiced every day and now rests in the arms of Jesus with the promise of eternal life.
As our matriarch, Marion was the center of our family's story. Over her nine decades, she experienced tremendous love and aching loss, leaning on her faith and family to fortify her and maintaining a deep belief that life is worth living.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, January 24 at 11:00 a.m. at River Run Christian Church, 1660 Croton Road in Melbourne.
