Obituary

Marilyn Jean Lamers, 83, of Cape Canaveral Florida was taken into God's arms and lifted to
rest on Tuesday January 4, 2022 after living a rich and benevolent life.
Born Feb 12,1938 to Harry and Catherine (McGinity) Marquis in Morristown New Jersey, Marilyn
was the second of five children. Her two sisters Patsy Fink and Catherine Briois preceded her
in death, while she is survived by her two brothers Jerry (Kathy) Marquis and Jack (Shirley)
Marquis.
Marilyn grew up in Miami Springs Florida and in 1958 married her lifetime love Marcel Lamers
(died 2013), moved with him to Manitowoc Wisconsin and raised a vibrant family of seven
children: Vince (Jean) Lamers, Julie (Steve) Mariani, Marcie Dick, Andy (Rosemary) Lamers,
Ann Krostue, Patty (David) Heidenreich, and Bart (Kersti) Lamers. Marilyn then became a
loving grandmother to twenty grandchildren and four greats, with one on the way.
Marilyn enjoyed children and she loved to tease. While raising her own, she provided the best
childcare in town to dozens of children over the next 20 years. Due to a job change for Marcel,
the Lamers family moved to Rhinelander Wisconsin in 1978 and Marilyn began her career as an
Office Manager at Rhinelander Catholic Central School, continuing to share her maternal love
and wisdom. In 1986, Marilyn and Marcel made their final move to Cape Canaveral Florida,
where Marilyn returned to her compassionate career, this time at Divine Mercy Elementary
School until she retired. In 1993 Marilyn was duly honored by The Reporter as "Mother of the
Year" for enduring the rigors of raising 7 children while keeping her sanity and humor intact.
If you were lucky enough to share a happy hour with Marilyn, you know her teasing was her
greatest expression of affection and her unexpected comments would spread laughs across the
room. Marilyn's quiet side would find her skillfully playing bridge with many of her dearest
friends. Bridge was a favorite past-time Marilyn enjoyed her entire life. Marilyn was incredibly
wise, generous, kind, and fair. She was also conscious not to be wasteful in any aspect of life.
Marilyn dedicated her life to God and her family. She became a pseudo mother to many, as well
as a dear neighbor and special friend to countless others. She will certainly leave a void in the
lives of all those she touched.
