Marilyn Therese Lakin, 82, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 15, 2012 in Rockledge, FL. Marilyn was born on September 10, 1929 to the late Clarance Runte and Anna Weber in Elm Grove, WI. She was the oldest of 5 children.
Marilyn attended parochial schools during her childhood and graduated from Holy Angel's Academy in Milwaukee, WI. In her youth, she was a candidate for MENSA. While being enrolled at Marquette University as a pre med student, she married the love of her life, Oertell Lakin.
Marilyn is survived by her husband of 63 wonderful years, Oertell; daughter, Leslie Ann Fischer of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; son, Robert Lakin of Bloomington, IL; and her grandsons, Dr. Ryan Lakin of Cleveland, OH and Mark Lakin, Esq., of Jacksonville, FL.
Marilyn and Oertell were early parishioners of St. Johns Evangelist Catholic Church in Viera, FL. Marilyn was also an active member of the ladies auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus Council #6125. She enjoyed playing Contract Bridge and was a member of the American Contract Bridge League with many master points earned in her career.
Marilyn became a polio victim in 1952, and her body was ravished by the disease until the day she died. She will be dearly missed.
At this time, services will be private at a later date.
