Marilyn Hamberg, age 93, died peacefully on February 24, 2018 at Holmes Regional Hospital in Melbourne, FL, after a long struggle with cancer and more recently lupus and pneumonia.  Marilyn was born May 15, 1924, in New York City (Bronx), New York, the daughter of Carl and Betty Berger.  She grew up spending summers and vacations, along with her cousins, at her grandparents' farm in Niantic, CT.   Marilyn graduated from James Monroe High School in the Bronx, and the Leo Ritter School of Nursing at Israel Zion Hospital in Brooklyn, NY where she earned her license as a Registered Professional Nurse (RN).

In 1945, Marilyn married Dr. Benjamin Greenberg.  They had three loving and successful sons.  William Greenberg is a physician, Harvey Greenberg is an engineer, and Barry Greenberg an attorney.  Her second husband was Phillip Hamberg.  Phil and Marilyn moved to Daytona Beach in 1976, where Marilyn spent the next 41 years.  In late 2017 she moved to Viera, FL to be closer to her family.

In addition to raising three children, she worked in New York as an OR nurse and later served the Volusia County Dept. of Health.  After her retirement she volunteered with the American Red Cross and other health-based organizations. She was active in the senior community, performed with the Ormond Beach Kopy Kats and loved playing Mahjong, Bridge and Scrabble with her friends and family.

Marilyn is survived by her three sons and two daughters-in-law (Wendy and Dorothy), her stepchildren Ronald and Nina, four grandchildren (Todd, Jason, Holly and Ross), two great-grandchildren (Brayden and Zachary) and her nephew Bernie Berger and his family.

Marilyn chose to be cremated and requested that no memorial service be held.  In lieu of a memorial service her children will host a celebration of her life in Daytona Beach on a date to be determined.
