Mrs. Marilyn "Tweety" (Mayell) Blackett, born on March 15, 1929 in Albany, New York, to the late Grace (VanVranken) Mayell and the late Egbert Mayell, passed away at age 89 on March 5, 2019 in Cape Canaveral Hospital, Cocoa Beach, Florida. She graduated from Plattsburgh State Teachers College with a Masters Degree in Education and was a Home Economics Teacher. After retiring from teaching, she touched the lives of many children while caring for them in her home daycare. Marilyn married George on April 4, 1953 enjoying 65 wonderful years of marriage. In 1966 they relocated from Catskill, NY to West Melbourne, FL where they raised their family. Marilyn is survived by her husband, George; her children Karen Blackett, Kevin (Lisa) Blackett and Kimberly (Timothy, Sr.) Doucette; grandchildren, Joshua Blackett, Justin (Cady) Blackett, Elise Blackett (Fiancee Matthew Sheck), Timothy Doucette, Jr. and great-granddaughter, Harper Blackett; sisters Janet Waite and Anne (Paul) Hahn and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and many special friends. She was preceded in death by her sister, Barbara Mayell and brothers in law Donald Waite and Francis Blackett. Marilyn loved gardening, cooking, camping, serving the community and spending time with her family and friends. She was a member of Wesley Methodist Church, West Melbourne, FL and was a volunteer at Maxwell C. King Center for 26 years and Aging Matters in Brevard for 20 years. She was an active member of AARP Chapter Number 1413, New York State Club, and Charter Member of the No Frills Sam's Club Chapter Number 138. In lieu of flowers please donate in her name to Space Coast Field of Dreams, Inc. PO Box 120878, West Melbourne FL, 32912. Please join her family in a Celebration of Life which will be held on Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at 11:00 am at Wesley Methodist Church, 2075 Meadowlane Avenue, West Melbourne, Florida, 32904 with Reverend Douglas McClain, Senior Pastor officiating.
