IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Marian Jane
Bassler
April 18, 1929 – January 19, 2024
Marian Jane Schmidt and her fraternal twin (Myron) were born on April 18, 1929 in Red Oak, Iowa to Walter and Doris Schmidt. Older brother Max (1924) and younger sister Myrle (1939) completed their family.
Marian was a vibrant woman of many talents. After graduating high school in Red Oak, Iowa, she began nurses training at Methodist Hospital and Omaha University. She met Louis (Lee) Lipman at a St. Patrick's Day dance in 1948 and they eloped two months later and moved to Chicago where they began married life. Soon after, their family began to grow with the birth of three boys. Terry Lipman was born in 1949, Ronnie Lipman was born in 1950 and Cary Lipman was born in 1961. Wanting an easier (warmer) life, the family moved to South Florida in 1965 where they lived a very busy, fulfilling life; they owned a family business, racehorses and spent time enjoying their family together. After a brief illness, Lee passed in 1980.
Marian Lipman met the second love of her life, Fred Bassler, in 1981. A TV Repairman by day and talented musician, they quickly fell in love and began life together in 1982 with a wedding on Super Bowl Sunday. They enjoyed a rich and busy life playing golf, traveling, and listening to music on cruises, in jazz clubs and always at home. After a debilitating illness, Fred passed on September 13, 2020.
Marian was known for her outgoing personality and love of music, fashion, dancing, crocheting/sewing, playing games and most importantly, chocolate ice cream. She was always willing to learn and never let anything get in her way. She was the light of every room she entered and loved spending time with her family any chance she got.
Marian Lipman Bassler passed very peacefully at the William Childs Hospice House on January 19, 2024. She is survived by her sister Myrle (Gretchie); sons, Terry (Vee), Ronnie (Dianne), Cary (Katie); her grandchildren, Noah (Courtney), Asahel, Chelsea (Jeremy), Ariel, Jesse, Eden, Sadie (Tyler), Kevin, Jackson; her great-grandchildren, Natalie, Aksanna, Olivia, Camdyn, Andrew and Remington.
In lieu of a service, the family has chosen to remember our beautiful mother, grandmother, great grandmother with the memories, pictures and videos of our last family celebration (a cruise in December 2023).
Should you wish to celebrate Marian, we are asking that you make a donation to the William Childs Hospice House in her honor. This gesture will serve as a testament to her inspiring life, ensuring her enduring legacy of love, care, and resilience lives on.
