Margaret Leslie (McCabe) Harris was born May 17, 1934 in Wellesley, Massachusetts to Leslie Walker and Faith Brown McCabe.

She was educated in Wellesley Public Schools and Graduated Wellesley High School in 1952. She went on to Nurses training at Newton Wellesley Hospital and received her Nursing Degree as a Registered Nurse in 1956. While in Nurses Training, she met a handsome young Marine, Jim Harris. They began dating and were married at the Bradford Congregational Church on August 18, 1956. They were married by her two Brother In Laws, T. Downing Bowler and Donald Tatro (both ordained ministers).

After honeymooning in Niagra Falls, they moved into their new home in Billerica Massachusetts.
Margaret continued working at Symmes Arlington Hospital as an RN and Jim worked for Forte, Dupee, Sawyer company.

Eventually Jim went to work for Payne Elevator. When Margaret was pregnant with their first child, she traveled with Jim for Payne Elevator. While on one of those trips from Burlington Vermont they saw Cocker Spaniel puppies on the side of the road. She wanted one so bad, she made our d ad drive all the way back to outside Burlington to get it. They bought one and named her Taffy. As luck would have it, she was very ill and would be nursed back to health by Margaret. Thus began her lifelong love affair with Cocker Spaniels.

They moved to Miami Florida in 1961 and eventually made their way to Satellite Beach, Florida. They raised their 3 children, Karin, Tim and Robyn there.

Margaret practiced nursing off and on throughout their childhood working at the old Brevard Hospital and Private Duty Nursing.

Over the years, she had many more dogs and rabbits and birds, and (pet) mice. Margaret was well known for her love of animals and was known throughout her neighborhood as the person to bring injured animals too. Over the years she rescued, wild birds, baby possums and even an injured Pelican. During it's rescue, it proceeded to wack her on the head with its beak. She took it to Florida Wildlife Sanctuary.

Margaret was an amazing mom. She was our best friend and completely devoted to her family. She loved to decorate and make things for her home. Over the years she created beautiful quits and quilted wall hangings, she crocheted and sewed numerous gifts. Her sewing was so unique and so well done it looked professional. She played the piano and spent many happy hours playing for all of us. She made our home into a very warm and loving home.

She was always up for any adventure that involved her family. She rode on the back of Tim's dirt bike and motorcycle. She camped, boated, stayed in remote cabins with outhouses in the Mountains of New Hampshire.

Throughout her life, she took wonderful care of her children and family. She suffered with Migraines and still managed to always put a meal on the table and make sure we always had clean clothes to wear.
After their children were grown and married with children of their own, dad took a transfer to the Azores and the two of them spent almost 2 years there.

Upon their return, they bought a lot and built a home in Melbourne. They retired there and she proceeded to lovingly decorate their home with beautiful antiques they purchased on their travels to and from New England and items she created over the years.

In her last years, she was ill and was lovingly cared for by our dad. He stubbornly insisted on taking care of her in her home that she loved.

She went to be with the Lord on March 26, 2015. She will be greatly missed by all of her family. In her last days she was continuously surrounded by her husband, children and grandchildren and her devoted dog Lucky and the wonderful care of Vitas Hospice nurses and HHA's.

She is survived by her husband of 58 1/2 years (our dad) James Y. Harris. Her three children Karin (Jim) Kendust, Tim (Rhyna) Harris and Robyn (Andy) Smith, Her Grandchildren Jennifer (Brandon) McCurdy, Erik Kendust, Amber Pesante, Brannon Wiltse, Jason Wiltse, Danielle Smith (Howard Nader), David (Kathleen) Smith, Her dear brother Charles McCabe, 6 great-grandchildren and her devoted dog Lucky.
She was pre-deceased by her father, Leslie Walker McCabe, Mother, Faith Brown McCabe, and her sisters Janet McCabe Bowler and LouEllen McCabe Tatro.
