We are sad to announce on February 6, 2024 Madge Wynelle Keen Phillips passed at the age of 95 in Melbourne, Florida.
Wynelle was a loving mother, wife, sister, daughter and aunt. Wynelle was born November 15, 1928 in Sylvester, Worth County, Georgia. Wynelle was the daughter of William Dewey Keen and Carolee Barbee Keen both of Sylvester, GA. Wynelle was sister to four brothers, Donald Weaver Dixon (half brother) , William Mervin Keen, Arrell Lee Keen and Emory Franklin Keen all of which preceded her in death. Wynelle and her brothers lost their parents and oldest brother at an early age. The children were raised by family.
Wynelle attended Waresboro High School and in later years transferred to Waycross Senior High School to take courses needed to pursue a nursing career. After high school graduation Wynelle boarded a train to Atlanta to attend Crawford W. Long School of Nursing. Wynelle graduated with a bachelors degree in nursing and spent her life working in Atlanta and West GA area hospitals.
Wynelle Married Fred Pasco Powell, Jr. on Dec. 17, 1949 and together they had three children, Fred Pasco Powell III, Cynthia Carol Powell and Christina Jean Powell.
Later Wynelle married Howard Leon Phillips from Tallapoosa, GA on Oct. 16, 1976.
Wynelle is preceded in death by Fred Pasco Powell Jr, Howard Leon Phillips, her daughter and son-in-law Christina Powell Bruce (Tom). Wynelle is survived by her remaining children and their spouses, Fred P. Powell III (Sharon) and Cynthia P. Swofford (Philip). Wynelle is survived by her grandchildren, Cori Bruce (Kris Chandler), Leslie Bruce Murphy (John), Nicolas S. Morales (Charlene), Lindsay M. Bannister (Josh), Deborah Anice Pittman (Andrew), Alexandra P. McAndrews (Danny), Alana P. Gerard. Followed by Wynelle's great-grandchildren, Amelia and Tommy Murphy, Madison and Jackson Bannister, Jonah Mateo, Nicomyah, Maikah, Kainoah Morales, Savannah and Emily "Emmy" McAndrews. Wynelle is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Wynelle was loved by all who knew her but especially by her family and First Baptist Church of Tallapoosa family.
Davis Seawinds Funeral Home and Crematory will be handling arrangements. A small service will be held in the Davis Seawinds Chapel on Saturday, February 17th at 12:00pm. Interment will be on Saturday, March 23rd at 3:00pm at Kettle Creek Cemetery located at 2523 Carswell Ave in Waycross, GA 31501. Wynelle and her brothers will be reunited and together again.
