Lyndon Wharton (1935-2017)

Lyndon Wharton passed away peacefully at home on June 24, 2017 in Melbourne, Florida. He is survived by his wife of 60 years Joyce Wharton; his son Bob (Tammy) of Loami, Il; daughter Susan of Melbourne, Florida; sister Nelda of (Newton, Il); and brother Jack (Don) of Bloomington, Indiana. He also loved his "honorary" grandchildren Jayden Jarrett, and Kaylen Reed of Rochester, Illinois.
Lyndon was born on March 4, 1935 in Edgewood, Illinois to John and Bernice Wharton. He graduated from Albion High School, attained his Bachelor's degree from Eastern Illinois University, his Master's degree from Northern Illinois University, and his Doctorate from Southern Illinois University. He served in the U.S. Army from 1957-1960 and then resumed his career in education. He was a teacher, counselor, principal, and then went to work at the Illinois State Board of Education, where he retired in 1990 as the Assistant State Superintendent of Schools.
An avid Cubs fan, Lyndon was overjoyed when they won the World Series this past year. He was a beloved husband, father, and friend and will be missed greatly by everyone who knew him. There will be a celebration of life ceremony in both Florida and Springfield, Illinois, which will be announced at a future date. A private graveside ceremony for immediate family members will be held in Edgewood, Illinois.
