Leverett "Murph" Murphy,75, passed away Friday, August 31, 2012 when he
lost his battle with lung cancer. The youngest of nine siblings, he was born in Meriden,CT on April 28,1937 to Charles and Dorthella (Stocking) Murphy.
A Staff Sergeant and radar specialist, Murph served in the USAF for ten years. He worked for many years as a foreman in the press room at the
Newburgh Evening News, and subsequently moved on to work at IBM in East
Fishkill for over 20 years.
He is survived by two daughters,Amy Beth Murphy and Ellen Susan
McAndrews;four grandchildren,Colleen McAndrews,Liam McAndrews,Gillian
McAndrews and Caitlyn McAndrews, all originally from Newburgh and now
residing in Palm Bay, FL. He leaves behind many family members,friends,
and co-workers who will all greatly miss him. He is predeceased by his wife, Audrey Knapp Murphy and two daughters, Karen Lynn Murphy and Laura Ann Sheposh, all from Newburgh.
A memorial service will be held in NY next month. Donations can be made in his name to The Jimmy Fund, either online or at 10 Brookline Place West,6th Floor,Brookline,Ma. 02284.
