LaVerne Schamberg (nee Foran), age 89 died peacefully on Thursday, April 10, 2014 at Trevecca Health Care Center in Nashville where she had resided for 10 months. She had lived in Nashville for the past 6 years where she lived near her son Bob and his wife Debra who cared for her. She previously had lived in Melbourne, FL for 26 years. She was a member of St. Edward Catholic Church in Nashville and Ascension Catholic Church in Melbourne. She was born October 1924 in Cleveland, Ohio to Francis and Loretta (Boyert) Foran and was a graduate of James Ford Rhodes high school and a secretarial college in Cleveland. She married Charles G. (Sham) Schamberg in May 1944 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church. They were married 49 years before he died in May 1993. She also was preceded in death by her brothers, LeRoy and his wife Liz, Robert and William. Two grandsons, Robert, Jr. and Sgt. Kurt Schamberg preceded her in death. Dear mother of Thomas C (Joanne) of Wilmot, NH and formerly Orwell, OH, Steven J, Sr. of Gillette, WY, Robert J (Debra)of Nashville, TN, Charles G. Jr, (Barb) of Federal Way, WA and Katie Schamberg of Orwell, OH. Her grandchildren: Lance (Sally), Jay (Amy), Greg (Kelly Caissie), Terah (Stephen Marshall), Charles III, James (Rachelle Greaves), Graham, Leslie, Michael and Steven, Jr. , 2 step grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Her many nieces and nephews and their families were very important to her and they will miss their "Aunt Sissy" as much as anyone as will her cousins. She is also survived by her sisters in law, Shirley of FL and Gina of TX. Being a mom and grandmother were the most important things in her life but she also had a rewarding career as an executive administrative assistant in the Aerospace e and large construction industry until her retirement in 1980. With Sham the family lived in several states during their marriage including Burton, OH, El Paso and Arlington, TX, Fayetteville, TN, Seattle, WA, Falls Church, VA and eventually retiring in Melbourne, FL at Lamplighter Village. She and Sham loved to travel and LaVerne did extensive genealogy research of her parent's families from Ireland and Germany. She loved sports and could always be found watching football, basketball, golf or tennis. She belonged to several tennis leagues in Melbourne over the years and played until she was 83 years old. Visitation and services will be held from 4-6 PM on Thursday, April 17 at Davis Seawinds Funeral Home, 560 Montreal Ave., Melbourne, FL. Burial will be Friday, April 18 at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL with her husband. Arrangements being handled by New Generations Funeral Home in Antioch, TN and Davis Seawinds Funeral Home in Melbourne, FL.
