Laura R. Gilbert, 91, passed away peacefully Tuesday May 8, 2018
at home, after a short illness with cancer under the care of Vitas Hospice.
She was born May 12, 1926 in Philadelphia, PA, and grew up in Miami, FL.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William of 48 years, her beloved
son, James G. Upchurch, brother Eddie Raiguel, and great grandson,
Christien Sinner.
She is survived by daughter Nancy, grandchildren Nancylee and Raul,
and great grandchildren Kaley, Madison, Morgan, and Melina. Survivors of
her son include grandchildren James and Wayne Upchurch, Barbara Sinner;
great grandchildren: Brooke, Logan, Jesse, Kolby, Austin, Tyler; great-
great granddaughter Jade.
She is also survived by sisters Rosemary and Bobbie, brother Walter, and their
children; cousins Sally and Martha and their extended families.
After her husband retired from Eastern Air Lines, they moved to Palm Bay, FL.
in 1979. Laura enjoyed sailing, playing golf. sewing/ knitting, and was an avid
reader, saying " reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body". She
served as Red Hats "Queen", and as Supervisor of Elections for many years.
Laura deeply loved her family and friends. "BOOTS", her fur baby was her
devoted and constant companion.
Her greatest love was for her Lord and her catholic faith. She was a faithful
communicant at St Joseph Catholic Church. She prayed daily and had an unquenchable thirst for learning more about the church.
Her family wants to thank her dear friends, Leslie and Mary Kay; the Vitas
Bereavement Group/ Hospice Team, and everyone who was with her during
her final journey home.
Friends and relatives are invited to the Celebration of Life Mass at
St Joseph Catholic Church, Palm Bay, FL at 11:00 am , Saturday, 6/2/2018.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory can be made to St Vincent de Paul or a charity of your choice.
Internment will be at South Florida National Cemetery, Lake Worth, FL
at a later date.
