IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Kenneth E
Owens
August 20, 1952 – August 28, 2022
Kenneth Edward Owens ("Red"), 20 August 1952 – 28 August 2022. Survived by beloved wife Sherrie of 45 years and daughter Laurel (Jeremy), three grandchildren Ishmael, and twins Lola and Ilan. Red is also survived by three brothers Donald (Mary), Roger (Cindy) and Hugh. He was preceded to eternal life by father (James D.) and mother (Louise R.)
A native of Oak Ridge, TN, Red moved with his family as a young child to Eau Gallie (Melbourne), FL when James took space and missile engineering work with Boeing at Cape Canaveral in 1957. Jim and Louise raised four sons. Louise was squad commander of the Harbor City Volunteer Ambulance Squad. Red always admired his maternal grandfather (farmer, carpenter, mechanic) who went by "Red". He was a long-time talented surfer on the Florida East Coast scene, rubbing elbows with such celebs as Dick Catri, Ron DiMenna and the infamous Jack Roland "Murph the Surf" Murphy.
Red graduated from Eau Gallie High School in 1970, and attended Tampa Tech for a time. He subsequently rapidly gained on-sight carpentry, concrete and steel work foreman experience constructing residential and commercial properties for General Development Corporation, many in Palm Bay, FL in the 1970s and 1980s. Later he was a master auto mechanic in the Melbourne, FL area. Red loved to fish, tinker, help his friends repair their cars and spend time with his family. He is remembered as an outspoken and ferocious proponent of Constitutional liberties who staunchly supported conservative values, the US military, and saw the US as the steward of technological and humanitarian advancement in the world. He was increasingly ill in the last few years of his life. He was surrounded by his family when he passed in Rockledge, FL.
His memorial will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, 10 September 2022 at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Melbourne, FL.
